HAS AMWAY CHANGED?
You tell me.
Ian Ogilve believes it has:
"Well I signed up in 1982 during the time when the distributor
network was trying too hard and I did experience some of the stuff you
talk about. We were encouraged not to mention Selling Amway and Products
when prospecting etc and we worked very hard for 3 years. We made significant
progress but working at distance it was difficult. We reinvested all our
profit into our organisation and probably did not make a penny which we
could spend on ourselves. We moved on to other things in 1984. I can relate
a lot to your experience.
However I do remember reading about Bernice Hanson in the USA
who's distributors approach was taught as "Have you ever heard of Amway?"
and based solidly on retailing products. Looking into it further I discovered
that Rich De Vos (on a tape produced by Amway) emphasised the fact the
it was All about retailing products. It was surprising to me that Amway
was more about selling their product than not being a SAP. I believe that
the distributer network got it completely wrong for more than a decade.
In contrast it seems that AMWAY have shown a consistency throughout the
last 40 years in maintaining that it ALL about selling.
So us guys who get sponsored on a wave of "get rich quick" guff
end up investing out profits or own money in the hope of going direct and
further. It simply does not work unless people are selling products. If
you sell then you make a profit and if you teach other people to sell then
they too make a profit and you a bonus. Something must have gone wrong
with your network of you lost £2000 -- Did you sell nothing?? What
about your group? Did you sponsor anyone?? If not then it's not Amway's
fault - It's either your own fault or that of your upline. If they were
teaching you wrong then they are responsible and deserve to be disciplined.
So for the last 16 years we have been Amway customers. We have
a guy who sells us the products and looks after us as a responsible distributor
is expected to. He is not a millionaire but is content to make some part
time money to supplement his job as a college lecturer. When I heard from
him about the new Amway in the Internet e-commerce deal I decided to look
into resigning - Well Ron, I found an entirely different Amway to the one
I left. The company of course is basically the same albeit the range of
products is much larger but the distributor group which I signed under
is very very professional. They do not get involved in all the stuff which
caused you grief and it very comfortable to work in their environment.
I have become active again and it is so much less stressful than before.
I have been contacting some of my clients (I own an art gallery in Wirral)
and business contacts - My line goes something like this..... Are you interested
in finding out how you can make some money on the Internet by becoming
registered as an Amway distributor? I have not found anyone who fell over
laughing. Some have heard about Amway but still want to hear more. The
first thing I have told them is that this demands a time commitment, hard
work and it is not a get rich quick scheme. We don't mention Dreams, Big
cars, Exotic holidays and all that stuff. Just plain facts. And you know
it has begun to work.... We are sponsoring at a much higher rate than before
(I was 20 distributors wide at one
point in 1983). Also it is now possible for people to register
at a no time commitment level - Cost £6.50 which is deducted from
the first order of over £30. They get all the benefits of the products
at distributor price but can't sponsor.
The distributor network has finally woken up to the fact that
things must change if it is to work here in the UK. I am confident that
Amway is not really as your site depicts it. Your arguments are out of
date - Things have moved on. I am sorry that you have had so much grief.
You must have seen something in it at the beginning - I am regretful on
behalf of your upline that you have been left so bitter.
As for me - well I have just come to your site from the Amway
UK site. They spell it out clear enough there regarding what the opportunity
is really about. While I agree with the principle that the Internet is
a Forum for free speech and you are entitled to publish your views on the
Internet, it is a pity that someone who might do well in this with the
proper guidance and encouragement from a good upline (like mine), may well
not even start once reading the information your site. I would therefore
ask you to consider putting your energies into something positive and worthwhile
rather than doing this with your site. You will find a release in yourself
if you forgive and forget and move on in your own life. We both know that
your experience was real enough and that you were subject to the unfortunate
excesses of an over enthusiastic upline but you need to let go and bury
your anger. Hope you do for the sake of those who might be robbed of the
opportunity to do something with Amway and for your own well being and
health.
Sorry this is a marathon e-mail but I thought it important enough
to spend time on. If you do feel that you want to keep your site on and
are fair enough to show a balanced view of things then may I respectfully
challenge you to include my unedited e-mail on your site."
