The way to rank in Google is not to try and rank in Google

It’s a silly title, but a sensible one too. I hear so often people moaning that is it so easy to rank highly in MSN and Yahoo but not Google. Now, they’re either lying or they can actually do that. Well, that’s fantastic. Ranking in one search engine using one specific technique is an extremely ropey thing to do, one minor change and all your artificial SERPs will be lost.

So what I say is rank highly in Yahoo and MSN, do it! If you do you WILL be noticed by people and they WILL link to your site - the next result of this being the higher Google rankings you desire.

This does rely on two rather major factors.

1 - Your site is actually a lovingly crafted site that people will enjoy or find useful and actually want to link to.
2 - You aren’t lying about being able to rank well in Yahoo and MSN.

It’s a simple theory, and one I’m sure is sound.
